Uno scorcio del centro storico di Roma in un'assolato sabato quasi estivo: sulla sinistra della foto, in piazza Venezia, il Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II, l'Altare della Patria (Vittoriano) sul versante settentrionale del Colle del Campidoglio, opera dell'architetto Giuseppe Sacconi. Al centro, la Colonna Traiana, innalzata per celebrare la conquista della Dacia da parte dell'imperatore Traiano; rievoca infatti tutti i momenti salienti di quella espansione territoriale. La cella alla base aveva la funzione di sepolcro per le ceneri dell'imperatore. Sullo sfondo, la chiesa di Santa Maria di Loreto, luogo di culto cattolico, patrocinato dal Pio Sodalizio dei Fornai, che ha sede ancora oggi nell'edificio adiacente; si trova nel rione Trevi, nei pressi della Colonna Traiana e della chiesa del Santissimo Nome di Maria al Foro Traiano. In primo piano sulla destra della foto, uno scorcio dei Mercati di Traiano che, costituiscono un esteso complesso di edifici di epoca romana sulle pendici del colle Quirinale.
