A novembre dello scorso anno durante le quotidiane esplorazioni nel mio terreno ho trovato sotto le foglie dei broccoli più di 250 uova di Pieris brassicae. I bruchi di questa specie si nutrono di Asteraceae e Brassicaceae, soprattutto cavoli e broccoli, per questo sono considerati dannosi per le colture e vengono uccisi dagli agricoltori. La natura è sempre minacciata dall' uomo e questo mi rattrista molto. Come sempre li ho raccolti e allevati per preservare la specie, anche se per me non è la prima volta ho potuto osservare e fotografare le fasi della loro vita. Questa farfalla, insieme al macaone, è la specie più comune nel mio terreno ed è presente dalla primavera fino all'autunno. Quest'anno l'inverno è stato molto mite senza forti cali di temperatura, gli sfarfallamenti sono iniziati i primi giorni di gennaio e sono continuati fino a febbraio; qualche giorno sono nate anche 20 farfalle tutte insieme. Non avevo mai visto farfalle nascere a gennaio e sono rimasto molto stupito, a causa del vento molte volte le lo liberate senza riuscire a fotografarle. A marzo sono nate poche farfalle nonostante le temperature più alte e la primavera in arrivo. Venerdì scorso alle prime luci stavo fotografando le tante fioriture primaverili, avevo portato con me una crisalide che il giorno prima era diventata trasparente; mancava poco alla nascita, potevo vedere i colori e la testa della farfalla. C'era una bellissima e delicata luce ma purtroppo anche un costante vento. La farfalla è nata alle 9 e ha impiegato almeno 30 minuti per distendere le ali, per fotografarla mi sono posizionato nel sottobosco non ancora illuminato dal sole. L'ho posizionata su un ramo di pesco che stava fiorendo ma a causa del vento non riusciva a rimanere aggrappata. Sono rimasto in attesa per circa 40 minuti, poi sono riuscito a fotografarla usando come sfondo il sottobosco e le sue fioriture illuminate dalle prime luci del sole. A causa del vento e dell'umidità mattutina la farfalla non è riuscita a volare, dopo averla fotografata solo pochi minuti l'ho delicatamente posata nel fauna box insieme ad un fiore per il nettare; nel pomeriggio con il sole alto e il vento meno fastidioso è finalmente volata tra i fiori. Questo mese continuerò a fotografare le fioriture e le nuove nascite del mio allevamento solo di giorno, poi a maggio riprenderò le lunghe esplorazioni notturne.
