Tra i borghi della Provenza Lacoste è un piccolo comune francese di 430 abitanti situato nel dipartimento della Vaucluse della regione della Provenza-Alpi-Costa Azzurra. Il comune fa parte del perimetro del Parco naturale regionale del Luberon. Questo villaggio arroccato è dominato dalle rovine del castello del marchese de Sade che qui si ritirò per sfuggire alle critiche dei suoi racconti licenziosi. A Lacoste condusse una vita libertina prima di essere arrestato e di passare 27 anni di prigionia fino ad essere indotto al suicidio. Il castello, che vantava 45 stanze cadde in rovina e poi venne acquistato da Pierre Cardin e trasformato in un teatro che a luglio ospita il Festival di Lacoste.
