A Milano, lungo via Torino, a metà strada tra piazza Duomo e le Colonne di San Lorenzo, si apre la piazzetta di San Giorgio al Palazzo, sovrastata dalla chiesa, sede della rappresentanza milanese del Sacro Militare Ordine Costantiniano di San Giorgio. La prima costruzione risale al 740 per volere del vescovo di Milano San Natale, ma venne poi distrutto. Successivamente, dal XVI secolo e per circa tre secoli, la chiesa subì diversi interventi che ne cambiarono l'aspetto originario. Nel Cinquecento vennero edificate le cappelle laterali e tra queste anche la Cappella della Passione, affrescata nel 1516 da Bernardino Luini. Nel 1774 venne sostituita la vecchia facciata di mattoni con i tre portali rinascimentali. Nell'Ottocento, infine, Parrocchetti realizzò il campanile a pianta quadrata e la cupola neoclassica. Internamente la chiesa fu ristrutturata sempre nell'Ottocento da Luigi Cagnola e si presenta oggi con una pianta a croce latina con tre navate. Sulla cantoria in controfacciata, racchiuso entro una cassa lignea dorata, si trova l'organo a canne principale della chiesa,(nella foto), costruito negli anni venti del XX secolo dalla ditta organaria milanese Balbiani-Vegezzi Bossi. Lo strumento è a trasmissione pneumatico-tubolare con consolle in cantoria avente due tastiere di 61 note ciascuna e pedaliera di 32 note. La mostra è inquadrata fra due lesene ed è composta da tre cuspidi con bocche a mitria allineate. (da Wikipedia)
