Le strade di tutte le città dell'Uzbekistan sono ordinate, ben curate e pulitissime: questo grazie al tempo (almeno un'ora al giorno) che tutti gli abitanti, indistintamente, dedicano alla propria città. E' consuetudine infatti che all'uscita dal lavoro ognuno provveda a tenere in ordine lo spazio antistante l'ufficio o la propria abitazione pulendo la strada, accudendo gli alberi, o sistemando i giardini. Mi è capitato di vedere signore in tailleur con la scopa di saggina intente a pulire o uomini in giacca e cravatta intenti a pitturare di bianco la base del tronco degli alberi per tenere lontani insetti dannosi.
