Una vera impresa trovare i campi di lavanda di Valensole, in Provenza, senza turisti! I pullman affollano la statale, le persone scendono a frotte, spesso anche calpestando i fiori pur di catturare una foto-ricordo. Unica alternativa.., o l'alba ... o l'ora di cena, quando i turisti si riversano nei ristoranti. Secondo la leggenda, la fata Lavandula, dagli occhi azzurri e i capelli biondissimi, nata fra le lande selvagge della montagna di Lure, un giorno decise di cambiare vita e di cercare un nuovo posto da abitare. Prendendo un libro di paesaggi vide le valli della Provenza che in quell'epoca erano aride e brulle, senza vita, così, presa dallo sconforto, si mise a piangere e le sue lacrime macchiarono di blu le pagine del libro; per rimediare al danno fatto Lavandula prese un pezzo di cielo e lo stese sulle lande desolate della Provenza e da allora in quelle terre deserte iniziarono a nascere ricche distese di fiori blu.
