Duomo di Monza --- Il Duomo con la sua piazza è stato il centro della vita religiosa e politica di Monza: intorno al suo nucleo originario, probabilmente l'“oraculum” della regina Teodolinda del VI secolo, si è costituito l'antico borgo. Dedicato a S. Giovanni Battista, è il monumento cittadino di maggior rilievo. L'attuale edificio sorge sul luogo dove intorno all'anno 595 la regina Teodolinda costruì una basilica. Secondo una leggenda medioevale la regina Teodolinda scelse questo luogo perchè le venne indicato in sogno da una colomba: l'unione delle parole Modo (qui) ed Etiam (sì), pronunciate rispettivamente dalla colomba e da Teodolinda, danno origine al nome della città, Modoetia.
