La fontana del Moro di piazza Navona, fu oggetto di molte versioni da parte del Bernini, che alla fine vide il Papa gradire quella ad oggi presente a Piazza Navona. Un uomo possente, con fattezze africane (per questo Moro), che stritola un delfino da cui esce l'acqua. La particolarità di questa fontana è che per i lineamenti del volto di questo moro, si dice che Bernini si sia ispirato al volto della statua di Pasquino , la più famosa delle statue parlanti romane, posta a pochi passi dalla piazza, su cui venivano appesi versi satirici contro il clero o i nobili romani. Questo proprio per polemizzare contro il Papa, che aveva rifiutato numerosi disegni prima di questo; questa fontana poi venne realizzata da Giovanni Antonio Mari, su disegno dello stesso Bernini. Come ornamento ci sono i quattro tritoni che non erano stati utilizzata per la fontana di Piazza del Popolo e dei gruppi rappresentanti un mascherone tra due delfini. Nel 1874, tutti i gruppi scultorei della fontana del Moro vennero rimossi e trasferiti e sostituiti da copie di Luigi Amici. Solo in tempi recenti si è proceduto al loro restauro, ma gli originali sono stati utilizzati per altre fontane; i tritoni, in particolare, si trovano nella fontana del laghetto di Villa Borghese.
