Non so datare con certezza questa immagine. Scattata sicuramente in periodo bellico.

Thanks Agata, I'm glad you appreciated this proposal, in which the photo, although not mine, still represents a historical document.
Thank you very much for your sharing and Merry Christmas

You're right, everything has been reinforced specifically to try to resist the bombing, a very interesting image, from a museum. Great

The first time I saw this image, I hadn't noticed the fortifications. It looks like a normal street photo of yesteryear. Looking better, I noticed the buttresses.
After specific research I discovered its protective function during the war period.
I am fascinated by these small historical details, fascinated by how much the photos become document with the passage of time, managing to stop it.
Thank you very much for your appreciation and for your beautiful words
Greetings

... I had never seen or heard anything like it. A curious document and at the same time, I believe, rare. I will try to deepen for my personal culture, thanks to this proposal of yours that I consider of great historical value, together with the caption as always clear and exhaustive.
Thank you for the wonderful proposal, Sergio and many good wishes to you and your loved ones.

Hello Gabbia65.
After noticing these works to protect the Doge's Palace, I started a little in-depth research on the internet and I found other photos, including st. Mark's Basilica and historical descriptions.
Son pleased with your appreciation of this document and I am glad that this shot has stimulated your interest.
It is always good not to forget, also because now the direct testimonies, by now, of those times are almost impossible to find, given the past years.
Hour greetings and wishes for Happy Holidays

I had missed this document. Also in my opinion it is a photo of the First World War. Saving the cities of art? And when does the fighting man ever stop in front of uniqueness like Venice if he does not spare even hospitals, children, the sick? Bravo Sergio to rediscover these old prints.
bye gios ;-)

Thank you
GiosThank you very much for your appreciation of this document.
The Venetians at the beginning of the conflict hoped to enjoy respect, then, after the first attacks they ran for cover.
Unfortunately, as you write, war stops at nothing and we are rediscovering it right these days.
Sometimes human behaviors find no explanation with the reasoning we usually do.
Greetings and have a good
weekendSergio

Thank you Bepi. Glad you enjoyed this vintage street.
The precious city of Venice was defended as best it could and so were these defenses to its architecture.
Other monuments were protected with sandbags
Greetings Sergio
