Scalone d'Onore Caserta: la presenza umana rende onore alla maestosità della struttura architettonica. All rights reserved. Dall'ingresso principale del Palazzo Reale di Caserta si entra in una lunga Galleria assiale che attraversa la costruzione e costituisce una sorta di "cannocchiale prospettico". La Galleria inquadra la “via d'acqua”, ossia la serie di fontane e vasche monumentali che conducono alla cascata posta sulla sommità, ai piedi del monte Briano. A metà del percorso si apre il vestibolo inferiore, di forma ottagonale, dal cui centro si possono vedere contemporaneamente i quattro cortili interni. Sulla destra si diparte lo Scalone d'onore, cuore della struttura architettonica vanvitelliana e perfetta sintesi tra classicismo e scenografia teatrale barocca. Si tratta di una rampa centrale larghissima, vigilata alla sommità da due maestosi leoni in marmo, che si biforca salendo in due rampe laterali parallele. Sulla parete di fondo dello Scalone, si aprono tre nicchie che ospitano altrettante sculture disposte secondo un preciso programma iconografico, illustrato nella Dichiarazione dei Disegni di Luigi Vanvitelli.
