Le terrazze della Cattedrale si trovano all'altezza delle coperture delle navate laterali (circa 32m) e si compongono di un ballatoio continuo su beccatelli decorato esternamente da una balaustra marmorea traforata a quadriboli, simili a quelli che troviamo all'ultimo livello del Campanile. Lungo le terrazze Nord e Sud, attualmente percorribili e lunghe circa 70m ciascuna, è possibile ammirare da vicino i dettagli marmorei dei rosoni degli “occhi” e dei rivestimenti della navata maggiore dove si può notare la presenza di buche pontaie, e i tetti in laterizio delle navate laterali sotto ai quali si celano gli ambienti delle soffitte del Duomo. Proprio ai fini manutentivi storicamente furono poste sulle terrazze le conche in cotto visibili lungo il percorso, impiegate per la raccolta di acqua piovana che veniva utilizzata per l'esecuzione di interventi di restauro e conservazione da effettuarsi in loco oltre che per prevenire il deterioramento delle tegole. Lungo il percorso è possibile notare sui tetti filari di tegole di recente fabbricazione, messe ad invecchiare, per future sostituzioni. Buona visione e grazie per il seguito che riservate al racconto fotografico dedicato al Duomo di Firenze. Nel viaggio a ritroso nel prossimo post saremo all'interno dello stesso.
