Sulla omonima piazza affaccia la Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola, mirabile esempio di architettura barocca. Fu costruita per volontà di Gregorio XV a partire dal 1626 su progetto di Orazio Grassi sotto il controllo di Carlo Maderno, Paolo Marucelli ed Orazio Torriani; l'edificio, dedicato al santo canonizzato nel 1622, fu innalzato sul luogo della cinquecentesca Chiesa dell'Annunziata, divenuta troppo piccola per gli studenti dell'adiacente Collegio Romano. La facciata in travertino è strutturata in due ordini, quello inferiore con i tre portali separati da semicolonne e paraste e quello superiore, più piccolo, con una finestra sormontata da un grande timpano. L'interno a croce latina con tre cappelle per lato intercomunicanti rispecchia in pieno la concezione di tempio determinata dalla controriforma; degni di nota il bellissimo dipinto sulla volta della navata realizzato dal gesuita Andrea Pozzo raffigurante “La gloria di S. Ignazio” e la finta cupola con alto tamburo sorretto da colonne dello stesso autore, entrambi capolavori d'illusionismo prospettico barocco. (da Scoprendo Roma)
