La valle del Dittaino, il cui nome origina dall'omonimo fiume che attraversa buona parte della Provincia di Enna, è uno dei punti più caldi della Sicilia. In estate, la temperatura scende di rado sotto i 35 gradi e il caldo si fa sentire parecchio, soprattutto nel periodo del solleone che va da metà luglio a metà agosto. La sensazione di forte calura è amplificata dal vedere il paesaggio circostante praticamente arso, secco, dominato dal giallo delle sterpaglie e quasi privo di alberi, come visibile dalla foto postata che mostra in primo piano uno dei tanti casolari, per lo più diruti, che sorgono nella zona. Il benzinaio di Catenanuova, dove lo scorso anno, a fine luglio, mi fermai per un pieno e dove ho scattato la foto, parlando del caldo che faceva quel giorno, mi ha raccontato che nel 1982, anno dei mondiali, la temperatura raggiunse i 48 gradi (sic!) e che dovettero chiudere al transito la vicina autostrada A/19 - che collega Palermo con Catania - perché l'asfalto si liquefece in più punti: accipicchia!
