Tra il 2 e il 3 ottobre 2020, il Piemonte è stato interessato da precipitazioni eccezionali e di fortissima intensità che hanno colpito l'intera regione, con particolare insistenza nelle zone dell'alta val Tanaro, biellese, vercellese e nel verbano. Tra Prarolo e Caresana, nel vercellese, l'imponente piena del fiume Sesia ha spazzato via diversi chilometri di argine, allagando le campagne circostanti nel momento in cui si stava raccogliendo il riso. Nella foto si vedono gli effetti del dopo piena: il riso è tutto piegato secondo il flusso dell'acqua e, compresso dalla piena e indurito dal successivo e lento asciugarsi, assolutamente irrecuperabile ai fini agricoli essendosi trasformato in una sorta di spesso tavolato. Ettari e ettari di risaie hanno fatto questa fine con grande pena e sconforto di tanti risicoltori che, proprio al traguardo, hanno visto sfumarare il loro raccolto e il lavoro di un anno intero.
