Ultimi giorni di febbraio 2020, ero in bella compagnia in quel di Napoli e per la serie: "non c'è mai fine alle bellezze italiane", ho scoperto piazza Montesanto e la bellissima chiesa della Madonna del Monte Santo o del Carmelo. Qualche cenno storico, da "Cose di Napoli". Dedicata alla Madonna del Monte Santo del Carmelo, la Chiesa fu costruita nel 1600 dai padri carmelitani. La imponente facciata, giallo e grigio, si presenta su due ordini divisa da un cornicione e con due coppie di lesene ( che hanno funzione solo decorative ): in basso, troviamo il portale d'ingresso, sormontato da un timpano spezzato per far posto all' effige raffigurante la Madonna del Carmelo; nel secondo, invece, abbiamo un grande finestrone rettangolare, con ai lati una meridiana (a sinistra) e un orologio (a destra). In alto, infine, accanto al timpano triangolare, si innalzano due torri campanarie. Ogni domenica si celebra la Messa degli Artisti animata dalla musica. Il lettore è, solitamente, un attore. All'interno è sepolto il musicista palermitano Alessandro Scarlatti, morto nel 1725, a dimostrazione dello stretto rapporto dei Maestri di Cappella della corte napoletana con questa chiesa Imponente e monumentale è la statua di Cristo, alta oltre cinque metri, che troviamo all' esterno. Chiesa viva e vivace, ma non potrebbe essere altrimenti visto che si trova nel cuore di uno dei rioni più popolari, animati e frizzanti del cuore di Napoli.
