Procambarus clarkii Il Gambero della Louisiana è un crostaceo di colore rosso scuro che popola le acque dolci delle nostre rogge, dei torrenti e degli stagni. Questi esemplari possono raggiungere una discreta lunghezza, arrivando anche a 12 cm. Si differenzia dagli altri gamberi di fiume per la presenza di una spina sulle chele, indice della loro ostilità e della loro aggressività. Come un vero spadaccino, ama scontrarsi impavido! Durante questi scontri può capitare che perda le chele… ma non temete! Possono ricrescere… davvero assurdo! Inoltre, provenendo dalle zone caldissime della Louisiana, vive benissimo anche a temperature elevate (guida del pescatore).
