Le “Grange” sorte nella pianura vercellese, e più precisamente nel lembo di territorio che si estende tra Trino, Crescentino e Larizzate, avevano il proprio fulcro nell'Abbazia di S. Maria di Lucedio: fondata dai monaci cistercensi nel 1123, acquisì da subito numerosi possedimenti, ognuno dei quali faceva capo a una “grangia”, letteralmente "granaio”. Appena entrati dal cancello principale, a sinistra della foto, c'è la corte dell'Abbazia. La chiesa a destra della foto è quella abbaziale, quella al centro è invece la “Chiesa del Popolo” cosiddetta perché adoperata per celebrare le funzioni religiose “ad coram populi”, mentre quella abbaziale restava ad esclusivo uso dei monaci per le loro preghiere.
