Il riso crodo rappresenta uno tra i problemi più importanti nella coltivazione del riso, a maggior ragione se la coltivazione è di riso biologico. Il riso crodo è una varietà di riso selvatico di colore rosso (riso rosso) che infesta le risaie e danneggia le coltivazioni perché cresce più vigorosamente innalzandosi oltre la coltura del riso e provoca una perdita di produttività fino al 25% del raccolto. Come se non bastasse, giunto a maturazione, il riso crodo perde i semi facendoli cadere nel terreno aumentando il livello di infestazione dei campi anno dopo anno. La falsa semina è una tecnica efficace per l'eliminazione del riso crodo: praticamente, si prepara e si allaga la risaia come se si dovesse seminare il vero riso; poi si ferma l'immissione dell'acqua e si lascia asciugare la risaia; con l'acqua presente il riso crodo germoglia ma poi con l'assenza d'acqua muore. Una volta morto, si procede con la semina del riso, quello buono. Quello che si vede nella foto è riso crodo, fatto germogliare con la tecnica anzidetta.
