Con questa immagine scattata l'anno scorso, vorrei augurarvi buona Pasqua. La Pietà, venerata nella chiesa del Purgatorio a Molfetta, è l'ultima statua che chiude la processione del sabato santo. Nel suo progetto di rifacimento, Giulio Cozzoli scultore molfettese, non pensò mai di rifare la Madonna: fu il primo a rendersi conto di quanto quella statua fosse eccezionale, di come quel volto fosse irripetibile, un'autentica opera d'arte da salvaguardare e trasmettere ai posteri. Pensò invece di realizzare una nuova immagine di Cristo Morto da posare sulle ginocchia della Madonna. Ebbene, subito dopo la Pasqua del 1907, l'Arciconfraternita della Morte, diede incarico al Cozzoli di plasmare una nuova statua di Cristo Morto per il gruppo della Pietà. Il giovane scultore s'impegnò al massimo delle sue capacità e per questo si portò più volte al Cimitero per studiare i corpi inanimati, nell'abbandono della morte. Dagli schizzi li fatti, successivamente elaborati e tradotti nel bozzetto definitivo, venne fuori la suggestiva immagine di Cristo Morto che venne portata in processione nella Pasqua del 1908. Le lesioni inferte alla fronte dalla corona di spine, i lividi grumosi delle battiture, le escoriazioni causate alle ginocchia dalle cadute, i fori dei chiodi alle mani e nei piedi, la piega aperta e sanguinante nel costato dal colpo di lancia, conferiscono alla statua verosimiglianza e compiutezza nei patimenti subiti da Cristo. Anche il volto della Madonna, rigato di lacrime, subì un lieve ritocco. Lo scultore volle donargli una più intensa espressione di dolore. All rights reserved.
