Attualmente Castel Tirolo ospita il museo storico-culturale della Provincia di Bolzano, aperto nel 2003. La visita al museo include il palazzo meridionale con i celebri portali romanici, gli affreschi della cappella a due piani, la camera nuziale di Margherita Boccagrande (Margherita di Tirolo-Gorizia) ed il mastio, dove in 20 tappe si ripercorre la storia del XX secolo. Dopo aver visitato il castello si possono ammirare uccelli rapaci e osservarli in volo, dato che nei pressi si trova il Centro Recupero Avifauna Castel Tirolo.
