La storia L'abbazia di Viboldone è a Viboldone, frazione della città di San Giuliano Milanese, in provincia di Milano. Per la bellezza della sua architettura e dei suoi affreschi trecenteschi è uno dei più importanti complessi medievali della Lombardia Fu fondata nel 1176 e completata nel 1348 dagli Umiliati, un ordine religioso formato da monaci, monache e laici che, attorno all'attuale chiesa, conducevano vita di preghiera e di lavoro, in particolare fabbricando panni di lana e coltivando i campi. Dopo la soppressione degli Umiliati ad opera di Carlo Borromeo, l'abbazia passò ai Benedettini Olivetani, successivamente soppressi dal governo austriaco e costretti ad abbandonare l'abbazia. XX secolo Nel 1940 il cardinale Ildefonso Schuster, dopo anni di abbandono, ha offerto l'abbazia a una comunità di religiose guidata da Margherita Marchi, separatasi dalla congregazione delle Benedettine di Priscilla. Nel 1965 Paolo VI ordinò che vi fosse trasferito l'abate di Montserrat, Aureli Maria Escare, per sottrarlo alla persecuzione franchista. Per molti anni, cappellano della comunità delle benedettine è stato Luisito Bianchi (1927-2012). Interno della chiesa L'impianto della chiesa è a sala rettangolare, a tre navate di cinque campate ciascuna, inquadrate in archi trasversali a sesto acuto. Prima campata in stile romanico e le successive, realizzate nel corso del Duecento, in stile gotico con colonne in cotto che sorreggono alte volte a crociera. La chiave di volta, al centro delle crociere, è circondata da spicchi racchiusi in un cerchio, con i colori dell'arcobaleno, segno dell'amicizia di Dio con gli uomini. Le colonne che scandiscono le navate sono in laterizio, con capitelli dello stesso materiale a cubo scantonato. (da Storia dell'Abbazia).
