La Residenza di Würzburg (in tedesco: Würzburger Residenz) è un palazzo che si trova nella città di Würzburg, in Germania. Il palazzo venne progettato da uno degli architetti più importanti del barocco, Johann Balthasar Neumann, su commissione del principe vescovo e ultimato nel 1744. All'interno si trovano splendidi affreschi realizzati dal pittore veneziano Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, assistito dal figlio Giandomenico. Fra gli scorci di maggior pregio dell'interno vanno ricordate la monumentale scalinata molto particolare in quanto gli scalini sono bassissimi, è come camminare senza salire. Questo doveva permettere alle dame dell'epoca di non effettuare sforzi, e nello stesso tempo di mantenere ordinati gli indumenti e poter guardare verso l'alto le allegorie dipinte da Gian Battista Tiepolo. Allegorie che lui dipinse senza mai essere stato negli altri continenti. La Kaisersaal (il salone imperiale) è la più riccamente decorata. Le pareti sono ricoperte di preziosi stucchi dai toni rossi, bianchi e gialli eseguiti da Antonio Bossi verso il 1751. Nella volta della sala, emergono gli affreschi realizzati nel 1752 da Giovanni Battista Tiepolo che illustrano la Storia della diocesi di Würzburg. Vi dico che sono splendidi ma è troppo poco. Ad esempio, c'è un cane ed una alabarda che sembrano tridimensionali, come se fossero delle statue. Altre parti affrescate seguono gli stucchi delle colonatte e sembrano fare parte di loro stesse. Il tutto impressionante! Con mio grande dolore era vietato fotografare. Mi è rimasta una spina nel cuore. La Residenza di Würzburg subì gravissimi danni durante i bombardamenti della seconda guerra mondiale, finita la quale iniziarono imponenti lavori di restauro e dei quali vi assicuro che sono stati egregiamente fatti seguendo le foto dell'epoca. La volta della Sala imperiale e della scalinata ressero fortunatamente ai bombardamenti. Commenti e critiche costruttive sono sempre benvenuti.
