Scansione da negativo Ilford FP4 del 1980 circa, fotocamera Mamiya 1000 DTL, obiettivo Pentacon 29 mm. f/2,8. A 6 km da Mirandola, verso nord, si entra nell'abitato di Quarantoli e, sulla sinistra, si trova via della Pieve, una strada chiusa che conduce alla pieve di Santa Maria della Neve, citata per la prima volta nell'anno 1044. L'attuale struttura fu ricostruita da Matilde di Canossa attorno all' anno 1114, data incisa sull'altare. Secondo altre fonti, invece, risalirebbe al XIII secolo, epoca alla quale appartengono le strutture murarie più antiche. Radicalmente restaurata nella prima metà del Quattrocento, nel corso del Novecento (1915 e successivi) ha subito numerosi interventi (che nell'ottica odierna di un intervento di restauro conservativo sarebbero molto discutibili !!!) allo scopo di metterne in luce le caratteristiche romaniche e con l' aggiunta arbitraria di un deambulatorio (vedi foto) a contornare il presbiterio. Nella parte sinistra del sopracitato presbiterio è presente una loggia costruita riutilizzando colonnine e capitelli provenienti da un antico chiostro oggi scomparso. I capitelli, ognuno diverso dagli altri, sono scolpiti con diversi temi, quali animali, foglie, leoni, teste antropomorfe cornute attribuibili alla scuola di Wiligelmo. Nel maggio 2012 la chiesa è stata gravemente danneggiata dal sisma dell' Emilia, il muro della navata di sinistra è crollato, la facciata è pericolante e l'intera chiesa è tuttora completamente inagibile.
