Quando il sole della mattina fa capolino da dietro i profili montuosi, il capriolo si ritira nei suoi rifugi preferiti, bosco fitto, anfratti appartati, o riposa sotto i rami di qualche albero. La dieta di questi animali è basata prevalentemente nel consumo di gemme, germogli, nocciole, erba tenera e fresca e le foglie dei rovi. Il capriolo in oltre rumina tutto il giorno, dormendo poco la notte; una volta ingerito il cibo, viene fatto risalire in bocca per poi rimasticarlo bene, quindi inghiottirlo di nuovo.
