Sono a casa per le festività natalizie, e approfittando di un tiepido sole quasi primaverile, me ne vado in giro per il vecchio centro storico di Monopoli. Questa vasta zona del mio paese, mi ha sempre affascinata. Mi piace andare a rivedere vicoli e stradine che fanno parte della mia infanzia, le vecchie case dei pescatori che, ormai sono tutte ristrutturate e circondate da ristoranti, trattorie e bed and breakfast. E' arrivato il turismo di massa, si girano fiction per la televisione, ma chi è rimasto dei vecchi abitanti, continua a vivere come un tempo. La signora che vedete al balcone stendere la biancheria, potrebbe salire sull'ampio terrazzo della casa, ma preferisce il balcone, come ai vecchi tempi. D'estate queste stradine si riempiono di gente che, sedute ognuno sull'uscio della propria abitazione, fa aggregazione: si spettegola, si mangia il gelato, i ragazzini giocano, le insegne di bar e ristorantini si accendono, e va in scena uno spettacolo di varia umanità con la luna ruffiana e impicciona che veglia, e qualche squarcio di mare che, si apre alla vista.
