Checkpoint Charli Il Checkpoint Charlie era un importante posto di blocco situato a Berlino tra il settore sovietico e quello statunitense. Situato sulla Friedrichstraße, all'altezza dell'incrocio con Zimmerstraße, collegava il quartiere sovietico di Mitte con quello statunitense di Kreuzberg. Venne istituito nell'agosto del 1961 in seguito alla costruzione del muro di Berlino per permettere il transito del personale militare delle forze alleate, del personale militare sovietico di collegamento, del personale diplomatico e dei visitatori stranieri. Il 27 e 28 ottobre 1961, nel momento culminante della crisi di Berlino del 1961, carri armati sovietici e statunitensi si fronteggiarono in modo ostile al Checkpoint Charlie e si temette per alcune ore uno scontro frontale tra le due superpotenze. Dopo la riunificazione il punto di controllo venne abbattuto mentre la baracca di guardia originale oggi si trova nell'Alliertenmuseum. In data 13 agosto 2000 ne venne inaugurata una ricostruzione fedele, divenuta in breve tempo un punto di grande richiamo turistico.
