Il maso è un edificio tipico del Trentino e del Sudtirolo ( Hof ) in lingua tedesca. Pur essendo leggermente differenti le tipologie di costruzione delle due province, ma anche da valle a valle specialmente in provincia di Trento, si tratta sempre di edificio agricolo. In questo caso, maso della Val di Peio veniva usato nei mesi estivi come abitazione per la fienagione, in zone distanti dal paese, e di ricovero del fieno, poi in inverno con delle grandi slitte, questo veniva trasportato nelle stalle del paese.
