Edfu, un piccolo paese subito dopo Luxor, nell'alto Egitto sulla riva occidentale del Nilo. Custodisce il Tempio dedicato al dio Falco, uno dei più belli in assoluto. Nei secoli di massimo splendore, era una città fiorente e molto ricca, oggi è un povero paese, pieno di baracche e di poche case, popolato da povera gente che fa fatica a mettere insieme il pranzo con la cena. Bambini ovunque, che ti si attaccano addosso e vogliono venderti qualsiasi cosa, pur di rimediare qualche soldo. Mentre parlavo con uno di questi piccoli, ho visto in un angolo di baracca semidistrutta, questo fiore...mi sono quasi commossa e ho pensato che la bellezza, nasce e fiorisce ovunque, quasi a voler portare un segno di "speranza" e di nuova vita.
