Colonia, 31 dicembre, hall dell'hotel, un uomo solo, fra la confusione generale di gente che va e che viene. Mancano pochi minuti alle 20,30, fuori c'è un andirivieni di taxi, chiamati da noi per andare nei luoghi canonici del tradizionale veglione. Mi fermo al bar, a bere un caffè, squilla il suo cellulare, risponde e in inglese dice: “No, Williams, non ho sentito nessuno. Ho atteso fino all'ultimo che Margherita si facesse viva, nulla. Bevo un te e poi farò quattro passi in centro.” Mi viene l'angoscia, il nostro taxi non è ancora arrivato, chiamo Guido, un nostro amico, e gli chiedo se è un problema invitarlo ad unirsi a noi. Non faccio in tempo a finire di parlare, che lui parte in direzione dello sconosciuto. Non so cosa si siano detti, per discrezione me ne sono stata in disparte.
