Il Saluto al Sole, in sanscrito Surya Namaskara, è una pratica molto antica, un rituale alchemico e magico, ereditato dallo yoga delle origini, tempo in cui, presso le civiltà presenti sulla Terra, l'adorazione del sole era un rito sia sociale che religioso. Il Saluto al Sole riflette tutta la potenza e l'energia che il sole esprime attraverso le sue parabole, dall'alba al tramonto, dalla primavera all'inverno. Secondo il Rig Veda, il più antico testo della conoscenza vedica, tutto ciò che è vivente nasce da “Surya” il Dio degli Dei, esprimendo al Sole l'omaggio che tutte le civiltà, fin dall'alba della storia, gli attribuirono. Le più antiche culture infatti hanno identificato il sole, fonte di luce e calore, portatore di vita, come sorgente della saggezza e della conoscenza, considerandolo un grande simbolo di fecondità e di crescita, un potente guaritore di malattie sia fisiche che mentali.
