La chiesa di San Francesco da Paola di Milano, rappresenta uno dei principali esempi di edificio tardo barocco e rococò a Milano. La prima pietra viene posta nel 1728, in un punto in cui sorgeva già una chiesa, su commissione dei Padri Minimi e su progetto di Marco Antonio Bianchi romano, con la pianta a forma di contrabbasso. La chiesa venne aperta al culto nel 1735, ma la facciata venne completata solo molto dopo, nel 1891, ad opera dell'architetto Alemagna. La chiesa è stilisticamente unitaria, in virtù del fatto che la facciata sia stata realizzata in stile neobarocco, dopo una lunga discussione riguardo a se dovesse venire privilegiato il progetto, appunto neo barocco, dell'Alemagna, o quello in stile neoclassico di Carlo Amati. In tale discussione intervenne anche Carlo Cattaneo. La chiesa è caratterizzata da una pianta sinuosa nella maniera del barocco romano. La facciata è caratterizzata da un'alternanza di concavi e convessi. Gli interni, ricchi di decorazioni, stucchi e dorature, come tipico del barocco e del rococò, sono a navata unica e presentano linee curve e flessuose che rendono gli spazi dinamici. La colorazione grigio-lilla di alcune parti della pareti rendono però l'ambiente un po' cupo. Il ricco altare maggiore è in marmi misti, pietre dure e bronzi dorati e dotato di candelieri realizzati da orafi romani. Critiche, consigli e commenti, come sempre, super graditi. Grazie.
