A Roma ci sono le carrozzelle, a Vienna, i fiacre che come il duomo di S. Stefano e la ruota panoramica del Prater, sono caratteristiche peculiari della capitale austriaca. Il giro con la carrozza a due cavalli è un'esperienza irrinunciabile per molti turisti. Non esiste praticamente un modo più comodo per conoscere le bellezze di Vienna. La parola francese "fiacre" fa riferimento alla stazione di sosta delle carrozze da nolo nella strada parigina Rue de Saint Fiacre. Nel 1720 anche a Vienna le carrozze, fino ad allora chiamate Janschky-Wagen, furono ribattezzate in "Fiaker" (e numerate). Il boom da allora in poi fu inarrestabile: tra il 1860 e il 1900 a Vienna circolavano più di 1.000 fiacre. I fiaccherai spesso erano personaggi originali, conosciuti da tutti in città, che amavano esibirsi tra l'altro anche come cantanti. Le stazioni di sosta dei fiacre si trovano in diversi posti della città: Stephansplatz, Heldenplatz (a volte Michaelerplatz), Albertinaplatz, Petersplatz e Burgtheater. Il giro in carrozza comprende numerose tombe di cittadini illustri di Vienna (Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Hans Moser, Falco, Adolf Loos e molti altri.)
