Il nome Rambla deriva dall'arabo “ramla” che significa “arenile”. Originariamente la Rambla era, infatti, un torrente costeggiato da muraglie e conventi, e solo nel XVIII secolo si cominciò a costruire case vicino al mercato della Boqueria e infine la strada diventò l'attuale area pedonale famosa in tutto il mondo. La Rambla, inizia vicino a piazza di Catalunya e termina ai piedi della statua di Cristoforo Colombo, ed è costituito da cinque viali alberati distinti, ognuno col suo nome e con la sua storia. Passeggiando lungo le Rambles si è fortemente attratti da tutto ciò che esse offrono: statue viventi, suonatori ambulanti, mimi, caricaturisti, venditori che rifilano di tutto, giocatori ferratissimi nello “stregare” il turista, cartomanti e chi più ne ha più ne metta.
