Poche settimane dopo l'inaugurazione, il 16 gennaio 1770, ospitò un concerto pianistico del giovane Mozart, non ancora quattordicenne con arie da concerto con il tenore Francesco Antonio Baldassarre Uttini e due sinfonie di Mozart e l'edificio suscitò il compiacimento del Mozart padre, il quale scrisse da Mantova alla moglie: "Oggi ho visto il teatro più bello del mondo".
