Paname e pagliette in bella mostra a Monopoli, all'esterno di un negozio chic nei pressi del porto. La veste un po' retrò dell'immagine è solo un gusto personale. Critiche e commenti sempre super graditi. E per non perdere l'abitudine, ecco qualche cenno storico:le prime notizie sul Panama risalgono al 1500, quando i Conquistadores lo vedono indosso agli indigeni, che lo usano per proteggersi dal sole, ma le sue origini sono sicuramente molto più antiche. A portarlo in Europa sono gli Spagnoli, dove il cappello cresce di popolarità tanto da essere indossato anche da Napoleone. A legare indissolubilmente in campo internazionale questo cappello al nome di Panamá, fu un evento mediatico che coinvolse il presidente degli Stati Uniti, Theodore Roosevelt,che lo indossò durante l'inaugurazione del Canale di Panama nel 1906. Le foto dell'evento fecero il giro del mondo, aumentando notevolmente la notorietà del cappello. Il Panama si afferma come accessorio di classe, e viene indossato da Ernest Hemingway, Winston Churchill, Nikita Krusciov, Harry Truman, Paul Newman, Humphrey Bogart, Richard Nixon, Jaqueline Kennedy, Mick Jagger, Sean Connery e molti altri. Più moderna, è invece la Paglietta, una gloria tutta italiana. Nell'aprile del 1907, quando venne varata la corazzata Roma, fa bella mostra di sé la paglietta. Viene chiamata anche magiostrina, perché la si indossava da maggio in poi, per essere poi dismessa durante la vendemmia. Ma questo cappello rigido, di forma ovale e fondo piatto, trova la sua consacrazione artistica nei dipinti degli impressionisti francesi: Renoir e Manet ci rimandano le immagini dei signori di inizio secolo che vanno in barca sul fiume e frequentano i locali all'aperto indossando appunto quella che chiamano canotier.
