Sovrastata da un'imponente parete che il vento e il mare hanno lavorato fino a farne un paesaggio lunare, è la spiaggia più grande e la più spettacolare di tutto l'arcipelago pontino. I suoi 500 metri di arenile di sabbia chiara realizzano un vero e proprio anfiteatro naturale contraddistinto da scogliere di tufo giallo e bianco a strapiombo sul mare. La peculiare curvatura (mezzaluna) dell'arenile è dovuta naturalmente alla conformazione geologica del territorio, che richiama alla mente la "luna", da questo, oltre che dal candore della roccia, deriva l'omonimo appellativo, mentre, il termine "chiaia" significa in dialetto napoletano "spiaggia". La parete tufacea alta più di 100 metri è stata oggetto di un intervento di messa in sicurezza dell'area con una pesante rete metallica, a seguito delle continue cadute di massi che costringevano la chiusura al pubblico della spiaggia.La notorietà di Chiaia di Luna come testimoniano i reperti archeologici riportati alla luce nel corso degli anni, risale sin dalla dominazione del territorio dai greci, prima, e dai romani, dopo, utilizzatori dell'area marina come porto naturale. La spiaggia è lambita da acque turchesi, trasparenti e cristalline, e vanta un fondale sabbioso ideale per fare il bagno e nuotare.
