Sant'Ignazio di Loyola è la chiesa dei Gesuiti dedicata al fondatore dell'ordine, insieme alla chiesa del Gesù e a Sant'Andrea della Valle esprime la forza della cosiddetta chiesa della Controriforma. La precedente chiesa annessa al collegio dei Gesuiti, S. Annunziata, diventò troppo piccola quindi nel 1622 venne iniziato questo maestoso tempio che venne terminato nel 1685 privo della cupola causa esaurimento fondi, una curiosità infatti è legata alla finta cupola dipinta all'interno da Padre Andrea Pozzo per ovviarne la mancanza. A fornire il denaro necessario fu soprattutto il cardinale Ludovico Ludovisi, nipote di Gregorio XV. L'architetto fu il gesuita Orazio Grassi, (imposto dai padri della Compagnia a scapito del Domenichino, proposto dal Ludovisi, che già aveva fatto i disegni e il progetto) sotto la supervisione di Carlo Maderno. La chiesa è l'espressione del barocco più sfarzoso. L'interno è ad unica navata con cappelle intercomunicanti, nonostante queste siano riccamente decorate, ciò che colpisce maggiormente è lo splendido soffitto prospettico affrescato da padre Andrea Pozzo raffigurante la "Gloria di Sant'Ignazio" Nella seconda cappella a destra (cappella Sacripante), disegnata da Nicola Michetti, si ammira bella pala d'altare con il Transito di San Giuseppe di Francesco Trevisani, altrettanto bella è la cupoletta della cappella Raffigurante l'angelo tentatore di sant'Ignazio Il transetto destro è dedicato a S. Luigi Gonzaga, venne disegnato dal Pozzo, sull'altare nel mezzo di quattro belle colonne di verde antico spicca in rilievo con La gloria di S. Luigi opera di Pierre Legros, sotto all'altare è conservata la reliquia del santo. Adiacente al transetto appena si accede al presbiterio è visibile la cappella Ludovisi con il monumento sepolcrale di papa Gregorio XV di Pierre Legros e le quattro statue rappresentanti le virtù ad opera di Camillo Rusconi. Il presbiterio è attrezzato con due organi contrapposti (in realtà un solo organo con corpi divisi ai lati del presbiterio) e l'abside è riccamente decorata con stucchi, statue ed affreschi (particolare) , l'altare addossato alla parete curva mostra una grande pala ed altre due ai lati vanno a completare la scenografia barocca che in questa chiesa si mostra pienamente matura. Nel transetto sinistro sull'altare la pala marmorea "l'Annunziata" opera di Filippo della Valle (1749), molto belli gli angeli posti in entrambi i transetti.
