Un'esperienza da provare ad Istanbul è quella di ammirare lo spettacolo dei dervisci rotanti, monaci musulmani che comunicano con la divinità attraverso la danza. Durante le cerimonie i dervisci ruotano su se stessi in una danza ipnotica oscillando per periodi che variano da 10 minuti a mezz'ora sulla punta delle prime due dita del piede sinistro con un movimento a semi cerchio in due tempi.
