Costruita intorno al 1615 per volere del Cardinale Maurizio di Savoia,fu destinata in seguito a dimora delle sovrane sabaude, motivo del nome con cui e' attualmente conosciuta. Dal 1997 e' iscritta alla lista del Patrimonio dell'Umanita' dell'UNESCO.
