Ait Benhaddou si trova nella valle delle mille kasbha ed è una delle località più spettacolari dell'Atlante marocchino. La sua splendida Kasbah sembra un castello da favola fatto di fango e terra che si affaccia sull'immenso deserto roccioso dalle diverse sfumature color pastello. La kasbah è del XVI secolo e da qui passavano le carovane che trasportavano sale da Marrakech verso il deserto riportando indietro oro, avorio e schiavi. Le sue mura sono ben conservate e utilizzate spesso come set cinematografici per film quali Il the nel deserto, Lawrence d'Arabia, Sodoma e Gomorra e Gesù di Nazareth. Oggi nella kasbah vivono sei famiglie che si guadagnano da vivere con l'agricoltura e il turismo. Nelle abitazioni tradizionali non arriva l'acqua corrente e tutti gli abitanti si approvvigionano da una fontana di acqua potabile ubicata nel centro del paese.
