Very nice flight shot. Love the pose. I wouldn't say this was over-exposed as such because it's hard to get that spot on with birds that have such white feathers and then having the darker feathers and sky become too dark by adjusting the exposure the other way. I would say however that you could have bought out some more of the white feather detail by dropping the highlights in LR or PS or which ever editing tool you have. Cheers Brian |

Thank you all for the nice comments, the acute observations, and the constructive suggestions. Indeed there is some lost detail in the highlights. Part of that was due to harsh lighting, i.e. time of day. The other part is that I had several exposure versions of the image and selected the wrong one when I posted it for viewing. It hadn't really dawned on me until you all pointed it out. Thanks.
Dramtastic, I really appreciated and could identify with what you said about extreme contrasts i.e. brown/black feathers against pure white feathers and getting sky tones right. Shooting in full sun against a bright blue sky at a basically black and white bird is really an exposure challenge, and one which usually requires some compromises. :-)
But it's all good experience. Thank you all for giving me honest feedback. I will be more aware of this next time. Wally |
