Questa scena merita una piccola descrizione. Quest'anno allo Yellowstone abbiamo trovato un ambiente molto vicino al paesaggio invernale piuttosto che a quello primaverile. Solitamente i laghi sono già quasi tutti "sghiacciati". Invece anche lo Yellowstone lake era completamente coperto da una coltre di ghiaccio e neve. D'inverno non è raro veder cacciare coyote e volpi con questa tecnica. Camminano leggeri sopra la neve ascoltando i rumori che provengono da sotto il manto innevato. I roditori si muovono ignari che da sopra un predatore sta in attesa di ogni piccolo passo falso. E' veramente incredibile osservare la caccia. Prima piega la testa da una parte all'altra restando in ascolto, poi facendo leva sulle zampe posteriori compie un gran balzo atterrando con muso e gambe anteriori come una lama nel burro. Questa "mamma" in particolare aveva un'ottima percentuale di riuscita. Ci ha deliziato con balzi e catture per almeno 20/30 minuti catturando almeno una decina di "Uinta ground squirrel" (Urocitellus armatus). La cosa strana è che a fine Maggio non è facile osservare questi comportamenti in quanto la maggior parte della neve si è già sciolta. Dopo 3 giorni, al mattino, siamo ripassati dal solito punto e lei era ancora a cacciare ma questa volta non c'era nemmeno un cm di neve. Dopo 3 giorni! Speriamo di incontrarla ancora nel viaggio invernale! :) Ho anche altre immagini, anche più ravvicinate, ma ho scelto questa con una visuale un po' più ampia. (mano libera) Un saluto a tutti, Ale
