Beautiful specimen and beautiful photo! I really like ...
Ahead of results like this if you go to question him on the perch you just envy ... IMHO ... ;-)

But I ask myself a question, you absolutely do not want to stir up controversy, just for my knowledge: "true" use the flash to get some shots? I know that it would be "impossible" without, but do not bother too accustomed all'oscurià a nocturnal animal? Again it's just a question from "ignorant" does not want to stir up controversy, but only to learn ...
Thank you!

thanks again to all.
@ Gianluca you have asked a question that I have done long ago when I photographed the first night owl.
then, the subject is approached and illuminated by a spot light.se felt disturbed it should be immediately and often fanno.questo I was even allowed to get out and I made a dozen shots from 7/8mt.
the flash to 1/1000 is not even sensed by the animal that is not in the dark.
if it were in the dark the f ... would not work during my stay the owl if they have completely screwed me and went on to cacciare.quando I got it gone moving to another roost in 10/15mt.
I went over but I can tell you without insisting that the owls or go away immediately or have behavior "strange" total indifferenza.comunque flashes are fastx idiosi the eyes of cattle and other mammalian species but if you get shot while you're a flash illuminated by the spotlight do not feel any discomfort ....
thank you for allowing me the explanation

Stunning!
To focus as you did? You helped me with a lamp or something else?
And who cares about the roost! Anyway, it is a natural setting and choose their roosts.
Hello and good light

Shark, to take these pictures where you look for the person serve at least three people,
one driving
one with the spotlight
one that makes the picture:-D
specific we were looking for the nightjar and beyond that we have found and scops owl.
As soon as you spot the one with the subject spotlight illuminates while the one with the car turned off the headlights and approaches as possible (trying not to crash ;-))
the photographer goes into action first from 10m .. then 8 ... then 5m.
if the subject, like this, do not you even row then takes the stage + beautiful.
Open the door and slides out of the car a little more and get closer shots again.
be tolerated by the animal that continues unabated to hunt è impression very special, unforgettable.
