Grazie AlessandroSorriso
Ciao.

Thanks Alessandro :-)
Here the light was very strong (see 50 f16 iso) and a filter 10 stop there was all down to 8sec the effect would have been different species in the clouds, stop 8 are sufficient for most situations, you can go with it a ND8 filter by three stops more useful when you want to blur a "recognizable"

Hello Catherine, I am fascinated by your photos with this kind of shots that characterizes you. I join to Alexander to ask if you can explain this better your technique in more detail just to give us a straight and better understand how to move. thank you very much :-) :-) Julian

:-) Hello Julian, in this case the technique is quite simple, you put a filter on many stop in order to get a shutter speed of at least 30 "but in some cases it may be necessary to arrive a few minutes to make completely blurred the movement of the sea and "brush" the clouds the time required varies depending on the intensity of the effect desired and the strength and speed of movement of the elements, however, the scene must lend itself to the effect, the sky is crucial in cases where There are many scattered clouds colored by the sun and the wind moves with enough force are those ideals, the sea is less important with the long time tends to level off anyway.
More difficult to find the right effect for the blur "racy" of the shooting, here too often nd filters are required (three stops are usually sufficient) to arrivare shutter speed is necessary to get the effect, here things change in relation to the speed and size of the waves, focal distance and shooting, it takes a little 'practice and evidence to recognize the various situations.
A greeting.

Beautiful shot, too. The use of Nd filters and multiple exposures are a true Master. I wanted to ask you a question Catherine: I also have a filter B & W 110, I noticed that I introduces a strong reddish cast, eliminated without too many worries in PP but sometimes it is a bit 'annoying ... the same happens to you or am I I have some problem or mistake in the use of filter? Thanks for the help, hello!

Grazie MacciSorriso
Ciao.

Thanks Macci :-)
You're not wrong nothing, with the B + W have the hot dominant species in the presence of strong light is inevitable, I believe that in part depend on the filter and partly by the fact that the camera misses the WB, however, as you've seen corrects easily ;-)

Thanks Catherine have you been clear, since you're an expert tell you what I possess and that reflected in the attempts of this kind of photos.
I state that I may not have the correct material, however, of the fact that I have available is an ND filter with variable density, when the SLR Avvito to see dark, if not schiarisco finding no effect, if you darken the photo, while using a long time is dark that you do not notice the details, if you use a middle do not get the effect due. I read somewhere that advised the focus and exposure setting before putting the filter and then filter inserted shoot, but even in this case total failure. What is wrong? depends on the type of filter that I have? if you can give me more straight you would be very grateful. Thank you so much and I wish you a Happy and peaceful Easter Julian :-) :-)

I read somewhere that advised the focus and exposure setting before putting the filter and then filter is in place to take

With a 10-stop filter is the right procedure, you focus before putting the filter and measure the exposure that will extend then adding the stop filter, AF and metering in fact do not work with light levels are too low, in your case having a variable filter is perhaps the most difficult to know exactly the stops to add, you'll want to try something, looking at the histogram to understand what are the compensation values ??are correct.
Greetings and best wishes for a happy Easter.

I have added two other versions of this part, I think it is interesting to see how the shutter speed can change the interpretation of a scene, often there are conflicting opinions on how to go back to sea in this sense, what do you think? Which do you prefer?

Hello Catherine, I prefer that to the 3 1/6...la find the right balance ... as they say ... the right is in the middle ;-)

Many good wishes for a Happy Easter to you and your husband Catherine :-)
