For some years this species hibernates in Sicily with a good number of individuals. I have observed on several occasions couples engaged in territorial displays and wedding parades, but still no confirmed nesting in Sicily (seems it is preserved in Pantelleria).
As for the photo, I can confirm - as this - that the lighting conditions were difficult. Antonio, however, has been able to manage it very well.

Domenik you're wrong, absolutely no fear but only flights festooned with uns second eagle which was not included in the frame.

" " Avrà preso una paura bestiale!!!!!" "

It will have taken a scary beast!!

I add a link to confirm what was said by Antonio:

www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?t=766061&l=it

We're not exactly disturbers of birds of prey ...

Mi sono fatto ingannare dalla foto precedente, dove sembra in planata a qualche decina di metri dall'obiettivo :-)....molto meglio così!!!! Erano in migrazione????

I was fooled by the photo above, where it seems to glide to a few tens of meters from the lens :-) .... so much better!! They were migrating??

Domenik, Xavier had written shortly before this phrase that I think can respond comprehensively to your question:
"For some years this species overwinters in Sicily with a good number of individuals. Several occasions I observed couples engaged in territorial displays and wedding parades, but still no confirmed nesting in Sicily (seems it is preserved in Pantelleria).
As for the photo, I can confirm - as this - that the lighting conditions were difficult. Antonio, however, has been able to manage it very well. "

Said I, Xavier and a wonderful team of volunteers every year we do a huge deck to protect certain endangered species in Sicily. Of particular note is the Bonelli's eagle. Please understand that even when we do we get pictures all the love and the passion to not having as priority disturbare.
By the way you ride a link to the documentary aired on two rai few mornings ago about our activities for the protection of our beloved Bonelli ;-)
[URL =]
I am pleased to have participated in giving some video and some pictures, but of course the absolutely most important activity is carried out in the field, day by day until we see them fly free and hopefully away from the paws of the hound-falconers.
