La foto è stata scattata a Marrakech. Sono molto interessato alla condizione femminile nei paesi mussulmani. Nel giugno scorso ho realizzato diverse immagini di donne ad Istanbul (alcune sono nelle mie gallerie). Questa foto si inserisce in quel filone. Non sono foto facili perché le persone, in particolare le donne, non amano essere riprese. L'approccio perciò deve essere rispettoso e non invadente. La mia è una "non idea" nel senso che mi sono imposto di non tentare giudizi su una cultura che non conosco, di non cercare significati inevitabilmente condizionati dal nostro modo di pensare. Ho tentato quindi di affrontare il tema senza pregiudizi, cercando bellezza, dignità e lasciando all'osservatore le sensazioni che trasmettono questi sguardi, queste vesti, questi ambienti. Ho scelto di posizionare il soggetto al centro in basso con un taglio abbastanza insolito. La centralità sottolinea il desiderio di essere protagonista pur in una posizione che sembra subire l'incombenza della struttura sovrastante. Struttura che potrebbe rappresentare un limite, un confine, ma anche protezione da una luce violenta. Lì l'ambiente diviene protetto, si può alzare brevemente lo sguardo.... Ho scelto in B&N perché il colore avrebbe potuto distrarre dalla forza espressiva dello sguardo e dalla povertà dell'ambientazione.
