come detto è un fiore di loto (Nelumbo) che non è sinonimo di Nymphaea: ovviamente nei due generi sono presenti molte specie e varietà e i fiori sono molto diversi, ma un primo discrimine può essere ottenuto guardando foglie e fiori: tendenzialmente le ninfee hanno foglie e fiori appoggiate sul pelo dell'acqua, mentre il nelumbo tende ad alzarsi di più...
