Situata nel Rione Colonna, San Lorenzo in Lucina è una delle più antiche chiese di Roma. L’edificio sorge su una domus, probabilmente di proprietà di Lucina, una ricca matrona romana che vi avrebbe fondato una “ecclesia domestica”, un luogo destinato al culto all’interno di una casa privata. Consacrata a luogo di culto nel 440 da Papa Sisto III, la chiesa fu ricostruita e ampliata nel XII secolo da Papa Pasquale II. Ancora oggi, si ammirano l’elegante portico scandito da sei colonne ioniche in granito, al cui interno si leggono una serie di iscrizioni antiche, i due leoni marmorei ai lati dell’ingresso e il campanile a cinque ordini, due piani di monofore e tre di bifore.
