Ancona è una delle pochissime città italiane, e la principale sull'Adriatico, dove è possibile ammirare sia l'alba che il tramonto sul mare. Questo fenomeno unico è dovuto al suo promontorio a forma di anfiteatro che si protende in mare, esponendo la costa sia a est (alba) che a ovest (tramonto).
Il suddetto promontorio è il colle Guasco, dove sorge anche la cattedrale di San Ciriaco, da non confondere con il monte Conero che è più a sud.
