2024-01-01, ore 21.16, a 23mm. la stessa passeggiata della prima sera dell'anno 2024, la stessa nebbia a Milano, la stessa basilica anebbiata, ma vista dalla piazza. qui sotto metto la nota informativa che mi ha provveduto il nostro amico juzino Enrico Giuliani (lo ringrazio di cuore): la basilica di Sant'Eustorgio, una delle più importanti della città, conserva le reliquie dei Magi, oggetto tuttora di culto e di una devozione mai interrotta. Secondo un'antica tradizione i Magi tornarono a Gerusalemme dopo la crocifissione di Cristo e vi morirono martiri. I loro corpi sarebbero poi stati trasferiti da sant'Elena, madre di Costantino, a Costantinopoli, in Santa Sofia. Eustorgio, recatosi a Costantinopoli prima di insediarsi vescovo a Milano, avrebbe poi avuto in dono le reliquie dall'imperatore Costante. Le sacre spoglie sarebbero state trasportate in città in un grande e pesante sarcofago marmoreo trainato da due buoi che, giunti alle porte di Milano, sarebbero crollati esausti. In questo luogo Eustorgio avrebbe quindi deciso di fondare una basilica. I corpi deposti in un'arca marmorea dopo un lungo viaggio su un carro trainato da buoi (vedasi il quinto capitello a destra della navata centrale della Basilica che raffigura l'episodio), giunto nei pressi di Porta Ticinese non riuscì più ad avanzare. Durante il saccheggio di Milano da parte di Federico Barbarossa, nel 1164, i fedeli, per paura che le sacre reliquie venissero profanate, le nascosero nella vicina chiesa di San Giorgio in Palazzo, entro le mura cittadine. Ma l'arcivescovo Rainald von Dassel, cancelliere imperiale del Barbarossa, scoprì l'inganno, si impossessò dei corpi dei Magi e li fece trasportare a Colonia, dove tuttora si trovano, custodite in un prezioso reliquiario riferito all'orafo Nicola di Verdun. In Sant'Eustorgio rimase invece il grande sarcofago sul cui coperchio sono scolpite una stella e la scritta settecentesca “Sepulcrum trium Magorum”. Nei secoli successivi i milanesi tentarono invano di ottenere la restituzione delle reliquie. Solo nel 1903, grazie all'intervento del cardinal Ferrari, alcuni frammenti dei sacri resti tornarono nella basilica di Sant'Eustorgio. Tuttora le reliquie sono conservate in una teca sopra l'altare dei Magi, nel transetto destro della basilica, esposte alla devozione dei fedeli. Aggiungo, da ultimo, che il campanile della Basilica è sormontato, rarissimo esempio, dalla Stella a otto punte che indica la Natività.
